An Introduction to Coach's Corner
Renewing my love for writing, connecting sports and business while sharing lessons from Timber Pizza’s franchising journey are the core reasons why I’m kicking off our new franchise growth blog “Coach’s Corner” Shared experiences, advice and connecting with fellow entrepreneurs are what inspire me and I hope I can bring a little inspiration to whatever you’re passionate about in both business and life.
Growing up in the DMV, writing about sports and life was the coolest and most relatable thing I could ever aspire to do. I was sharp enough to realize my shot at playing pro sports was pretty pretty slim but holding that Sunday paper at my Grandparents house while reading articles and combing box scores gave me that feeling that unfortunately most younger generations will never experience.
From my earliest memories I was hooked on Sports Illustrated, The Sports Reporters on Sunday Morning with John Saunders, Bob Ryan and the titans of the industry and locally the Washington Post. It was a privilege growing up near DC and having the Post be our local sports page. From John Feinstein to Tom Boswell and of course Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser whom America soon came to know we had the most prominent sports writers in all of the land.
When I decided to launch Coach’s Corner this month it felt wrong not to tip my cap to those who inspired me to write. The end of the Washington Post Sports Department doesn’t seem like something that would have ever been feasible even as print media becomes a thing of the past.
As I reflect on the genesis for my love for reading and writing about sports, life and business let us raise a glass to the end of an era here in Washington DC. I know many of our younger hearts are hurting this week and hope that the future of journalism is as bright as it was for a young kid from Maryland back in the 1990’s holding that Sunday sports page.
